notgneiss: Nota Bene: Todd's link to dictionary.reference.com lists two dictionary entries for prepend. Sources? the "free on-line dictionary" and "jargon file 4.2.0," the self-proclaimed "comprehensive compendium of hacker slang."

notgneiss: Not exactly what I'd rest my case on for its inclusion as a member of the English language.

notgneiss: Until the Académie Anglaise votes it in, it ain't a word.

todd: notgneiss: who is the Academia Inglesa internacional? and whence does their authority derive?
Posted Feb 21, 2008

notgneiss: St. Francis de Sales (patron saint of writers) founded the Académie in 1618, four years before his death. Anticipating the ascendancy of English in centuries to come, this prescient cleric still names members to the august body through divine intervention. If you hear the call, you're a member. I'm a member. You're not.
