7/10's blog group: authenticity in social media
The open forum for people interested in technology I help organize will address authenticity in social media during tonight's (7/10) meeting at 7 pm ET. Right on topic for Babbledog!
"To some of us, social media is a means of self-expression. For others, it’s a way of getting a cause or product’s message out to a wider and more engaged audience. For some of us, social media is our job as well as the place where we play. What does it mean to be authentic in today’s version of the social web?"
If you can get to Cambridge, Massachusetts, feel free to join us in person. If you can't and you want to participate remotely, comment on this post around 7 p ET and I'll try to take live notes here.

jessica: Oh, I guess I should say Erica, the other organizer, is the one who came up with tonight's topic. I'm pretty psyched about it. I imagine the discussion will be a good one.

jessica: One interesting aspect about authenticity is keeping secrets online. Some people put all the fine details of their lives online and others don't. One fellow said folks who only know a friend of his online would probably not know he has children because he doesn't mention them. Is withholding that information jeopardizing his authenticity? How much does that matter? When does preserving privacy trump or jeopardize authenticity?
