o.k., the price estimates look pretty good (based on what we charge at our shop), but it doesn't really seem to address the real problem most people have with shady mechanics: incorrect diagnoses.

jhota: That is a good point. It looks like one of the other things that the site does is allow users to find and rate/review local shops. This will hopefully help someone pick a show that isn't going to shaft you.

and there's also an online diagnostic service (for a fee). but there's no substitute for learning the basics yourself.
