I've got Moxie!
I've got Moxie. Should I drink it?

Almost a year ago, the radio show Weekend America aired a segment on the soft drink Moxie that convinced me I should try it. Not one who normally drinks colas, but who likes trying new foods, the description of the beverage as one people should taste a few times before deciding whether they like it caught my curiosity. I was able to try an ice cream version over the summer at an outing featuring handcrafted flavors, but that wasn't enough of a taste for me to determine anything about the flavor of the soda.

First marketed by a Maine doctor in 1876, Moxie was introduced as a soft drink in the US in 1884. It's supposedly the source of the word "moxie." It has a small number of fans, especially compared to the market share of some other colas, and can be difficult to find now. I've met a few Moxie enthusiasts. There's even a Moxie Congress and a Maine Moxie Trail.

On the way back to work after lunch today, we stopped for milk shakes. I glanced at the drinks in the cooler and noticed Moxie on the bottom shelf. I could tell by the shade of green of Jim's face that he had tried the cola, didn't like it, and thought it at least a bit strange that I wanted to try it. On the spot, we decided to buy a bottle, ask you Babbledog folks whether I should try Moxie, and consider your advice on the matter. If I try it, then, of course, I have to report on my experience. Jim suggested making a movie showing me try it.

What do you think? Have you tried Moxie? Should I drink it? Should I continue having a palate free of the taste of Moxie?

jessica: After a day like today, it is time to try Moxie. Shimon just had some and seems to like it. I guess I'm next.

jessica: I like it! I'm surprised so many people have advised me not to drink it.

colby: There have been a lot of signs of Moxie here in SF. I have not seen anyone making funny faces after drinking it.
