Suggested changes for the Americans with Disabilities Act
"The Bush administration is about to propose far-reaching new rules that would give people with disabilities greater access to tens of thousands of courtrooms, swimming pools, golf courses, stadiums, theaters, hotels and retail stores."

As you might imagine, some people complain about the proposed changes because of the cost of implementation while others believe the proposal doesn't go far enough. They include adjustments to the height of light switches in public restrooms and the height of railings along public fishing piers; altering mini-golf courses, playgrounds, and pools to enable easy wheelchair access; and stadia and theatres providing more wheelchair-accessible seating with views at least equal to the views able-bodied people have.

Controversy will come from the decision to limit what species of animals can serve as service animals. For example, the wording seeks to deliberately exclude monkeys

and other uncommon animals from being helper animals.

Jim Cowie: The miniature golf industry obviously failed to deliver enough lobbying dollars to avoid getting their very own line-item.
