Carnegie Mellon system estimates geographic location of photos
Researchers at Carnegie Mellon University have devised the first computerized method that can analyze a single photograph and determine where in the world the image likely was taken. It's a feat made possible by searching through millions of GPS-tagged images in the Flickr online photo collection.

I could really use that tool. I pour hours into naming photos from our travel blitz pre/post-RIPE meetings.

Nifty! One of the key pieces of this project is trust that people are identifying what they're photographing properly. I wonder how well it works. I guess it also means people tend to photograph the same things over and over and over ... "Look, kids! Big Ben! Parliament!"
