Padded lampposts for distracted texters being tested in London
According to a recent report, human beings are becoming so incredibly stupid that they require cushioned lamppost bases so that when they run into them they don't mess up their idiotic faces. Apparently, a study in the UK found that one in ten people actually managed to hurt themselves by walking into a post while peering down at their mobile phone screen.
Sigh. We are definitely moving inexorably towards complete idiocy as a species.

Personally I prefer the idea of natural selection. If you're too lame to walk and chew gum at the same time, then you likely deserve a dent in your head.

yeah, i walked into a lamppost once. i think i was twelve---just walking along with 2 friends and staring at my feet. they did not even notice, which was a great relief at the time.anyway, just look at me; i'm fine! and i have avoided all subsequent lampposts.

This is about brits, so it may not extend to the population in general. The guy advocating used the words "higelty pigelty" for crying out loud! Also, if you factor for the fact that everyone in London is drunk after 5:15pm every day, it might not be a problem for the rest of the world.
