Chuck Hagel is being discussed as a contender for Barack Obama's vice-presidential pick. While Hagel is a long shot for the job, what seems to be stirring some interest in him is less a question of electoral math than of political metaphysics. Running with a Republican would reinforce the message that Obama is serious about changing the way things are done in Washington, and that he really does aim to move the country past the partisan battles of the last couple of decades.

As Republicans go, Hagel would be a good choice. He is strongly against the current administration, and the Iraq war. Also agains the NSA wiretapping. Strong foreign policy experience, and would free up a Republican seat in the Senate.

As a strongly Partisan Democrat I would probably be against it, but I don't really have a logical reason why.

I'm guessing if I dig into his record on social issues it would be bad, but that is a guess.

Quoting wikipedia: "In October 2002, Hagel voted in favor of authorizing the use of military force against Iraq."

Damn, he's as bad as Clinton... and it looks like he is anti-gay, anti-choice and anti-environment.
