We first met Chips when he came to see us play a gig in The Stapleton pub North London. Shortly after seeing us he became our business manager and signed us to Arister records from 1977 through to 1979. He was a cool dude and could sometimes come over as a real hard nut, but his true nature would always end up shinning through as a man who wasn't afraid to show you true warmth when you needed it. He knew how to make a point with his sharp wit and sense of humor. He was best known (as far as we were concerned) for his funny little quirks that were never really thought rock managers normally did, like going off for weeks at a time in Wales or the highlands of Scotland Bird Watching! And some times hanging out in Norfolk with old Jazzers like Alan Haven! We owe Chips a lot, mainly for giving us the chance to shine as a great band that he passionately believed in. We will miss him dearly, altho we never spoke much in recent years, it was just the knowing that he was still around that made it alright. Now I wish we had got back in touch earlier, if just to say hi! Lots of love 'The Pleasers'. XXX 1977 to 1979.
Wow, what a loss. I loved the Anthology when it came out -- it transformed my understanding of the Beatles, which I had thought was pretty complete up to that point. It's a great legacy.
