that seems fantastic. there's all kind of interesting ideas about distributing the generation of electricity throughout the populace. it seems like a really good idea but i wonder if it won't create even more waste, pollution and inefficiency

regenerative braking on hybrid cars is a good example of decentralized generation done right. seems plausible that there are many more similarly plausible opportunities in our buildings and infrastructure.

shimon: actually, that's a great example of the problem i'm talking about. regenerative breaking on hybrid cars only works with massive numbers of ridiculously toxic (and inefficient) batteries distributed throughout the community. (and i say this as a prius owner). distributing generation doesn't necessarily make anything better, and comes with its own problems.
