"No educator in New Hampshire should be pleased with those math scores," Tracy said yesterday at a press conference. "We need to ask a lot of questions. We need to examine the test, examine the scores. . . . But we also have to say, 'No excuses, no exceptions.' These scores have to improve."

    1 in 4?!?!? that's like 40% of people who can't do math. that's terrible!

My local SAU "...aims to achieve Educational Excellence through communication, cooperation, and community involvement while empowering leaders and always remaining Student Focused." So I feel pretty good about their prospects.

"Student Focused" should be lower-case and hyphenated. Lower case because A) we don't speak German so nouns are not upper-cased, and B) because "Focused" isn't even a noun. Hyphenated because "student-focused" is a compound modifier. They do not intend to remain "student" and "focused" separately. I think you're pretty well screwed, Jim. :-)

I think your hurtful and belittling attitudes are directly responsible for the failure of these children to meet the arbitrary, socially-constructed, and possibly injurious and/or discriminatory "mathematical standards" that we're talking about here. We need a break with the failed policies of the past and a commitment to make investments in the bridge to the future for they're sakes. Yes we can!

Maybe I need to go back into teaching. Math was my favorite subject to teach and the one that seemed to be either loved or hated by students.

there was a news story on one of the evening news shows about the debate concerning traditonal math teaching vs. "modern." that modern stuff they showed? i have no idea how that is called math. if you don't teach math, then there's no surprise students can't do it.

I always thought NH had more than four students.

Ha ha ha to Todd's comment about 1 in 4 being about equal to 40%. :-) I'm sure he meant that as a joke.

I'm 110% certain that he was serious
