Chuck: I didn't know anything about super delegates until I saw a news report about it a while back. I found it all to be quite odd.

todd: jhota: indeed. but the sad thing here is that when/if the dems lose in november, they will attribute it to the fact that their candidate was a woman or a black man rather than to their own sad ineptness. and that will be a major setback.

notgneiss: If the superdelegates back Clinton after Barak finishes the primary season ahead in popular vote, the party will self-destruct. It could provide a realistic opening for a third party bid.

Jeff: Personally I hope this causes the party to implode. A candidate winning the popular vote and losing an election might be enough to effect actual change. Scrap the primaries and lets try instant runoff voting.

jhota: Jeff: change didn't happen in 1824, 1876, 1888 or 2000. i have little hope it would happen now. i actually expect the Clinton machine to force through the disqualified delegates. that way, she could "win" without the superdelegates.

Jim Cowie: I expect that the delegates will be seated at the convention .. after the nominee is selected. they won't contribute to the choice, but they'll be symbolically embraced by the nominee.
