Geeky list time: Pick an album for every year you've been alive | The A.V. Club
"Here’s something I saw recently on Idolator that’s apparently been making the blog rounds lately: You’re supposed to pick a favorite album for each year you’ve been alive. You can pick a record based on what you like now, or what you would have picked that year assuming you were old enough to care."

Jim Cowie: It's interesting how different the lists are. Presumably after 2008 it will get harder to do this exercise, as the internet kills the whole concept of "albums."
Posted 58 days ago

jhota: different, yes. but some of the albums on other folks' lists were ones i considered and discarded. Cosmic Thing, Yes I am, Never Mind The Bollocks, Combat Rock, Rio, Graceland, Watermark: i thought about all of them. so it's not that the same music doesn't affect people, it's that it doesn't affect people the same. "Combat Rock" was the beginning of the end for The Clash. it's a great album. but it doesn't have as much resonance for me as Mellencamp's "American Fool." (though i owned a copy of "Combat Rock" long before i had one of "American Fool")

amanda: I forgot about 2004: Give - The Bad Plus. I too had some trouble in certain years and had to decide between albums that I enjoyed a lot then versus ones that have meaning and enjoyment for me now. I also chose some albums for particular songs when I might not have heard the rest of it.

Jim Cowie: 2008 isn't over yet, but "Thriller" is still a safe choice ;-)
