This story almost seems like a no-brainer. Since people are online a lot more than they used to be and technology is far different from what it was after some of the major wars of the last century, it seems natural that today's veterans would be interested in connecting to other veterans online. It's good that there are resources out there to enable them to do so.

Notice how the grooms seem to be the ones injured on the cake toppers. Is it the husband who's saying his former wife decapitated him or pushed him off the cake with the divorce or is it the woman who's making the cake in victory of beheading her former spouse?

This recipe is indeed great! I think I would add less sugar next time, perhaps as much as 1/3 cup less, because the orange juice really makes the cookies sweet. I put in more chopped nuts and raisins, especially because I had no carrots on hand. Despite the ingredients list not mentioning rice milk, the instructions say to add some. I added extra orange juice when the batter looked dry and that seemed to work fine.

This pie is incredibly easy to make and was a hit at the vegetarian potluck I attended this weekend. I altered the recipe because I feared with just chili powder, it would be a little bland for my taste. I should have added even more cumin and garlic than I did. Perhaps substituting salsa for the tomatoes would be an improvement, too. It's nice as it is, but I would prefer a little more flavor. I think I'll experiment with what is left.

I wonder if that laptop bag design change will really solve the security problem. I have a sleeve case for one of my laptops and a screen-protecting sleeve that fits over the entire top of the computer. The security officers will not usually let me keep my computer in the case when I put it through the x-ray machine and I often have to remove the screen protector, too. It seems to me that they need to see the entire laptop to make sure that what is in the sleeve going through the x-ray is actually a computer.

I'm not sure why Horn felt he had to go outside to defend his neighbor's property and why he decided to shoot the fellows. I can't speak for Horn. In certain circumstances, when people feel like the authorities are not responding at all or not responding in a timely fashion, they might be more likely to take matters into their own hands. Perhaps Horn feared the robbers would escape before the police arrived and he wanted to make sure they were caught. Once the dispatcher knew Horn had a shotgun and was intending to go outside to use it, it seems like he should have aggressively informed Horn about the arrival of the officers so Horn wouldn't have shot any of them accidentally. I don't think the dispatcher said anything about that until Horn came back on the line after shooting the robbers. Then, he was quite insistent about Horn not shooting anyone else. The dispatcher was probably doing the best he could do under the incredibly stressful circumstances. I can't imagine what it must be like to try to talk someone down from shooting someone else.

Women's history, even in the United States, is filled with stories of them convincing men they can participate in sports. I'm a little surprised the article's author didn't address whether there's anything in Islam that would prevent a woman from being an athlete, besides clothing issues in certain cultures. To me, that seems more like an excuse than a real reason. Women are enterprising enough to adapt their appropriate dress to any number of physical activities.

LoJack for laptops sounds like a good idea. I wonder how well it really works, though. The review sounds promising. Is likely, though, that laptop thieves use the laptops they steal? I've heard that many laptops get scrapped for parts or sold very quickly to other people. I also wonder how effective sending 15-minute messages to law enforcement about the laptop's location is. (Actually, I'm quite certain Hitler and Nazism has come up on Babbledog before.) Godwin's post provides a great explanation for the law and why he started popularizing it: "Although deliberately framed as if it were a law of nature or of mathematics, its purpose has always been rhetorical and pedagogical: I wanted folks who glibly compared someone else to Hitler or to Nazis to think a bit harder about the Holocaust." This news makes me feel discouraged. I recently figured out that it's easier for me to take two smaller bags than one giant suitcase, but I don't think I want to pay an extra fee for that convenience. I agree with the fellow who says people will probably just bring more onto the plane instead of checking a second bag, which will lead to more crowding inside the cabin. People will also probably use bigger suitcases, which could cause problems for the luggage handlers. I guess we'd all better learn how to pack even lighter.

Intel's ideas sound similar to something I've heard about other laptop thefts. I can't remember if the security system is in use or still in the development stage. It's based on the idea that the laptop owner or user reports the theft to an agency, like the computer manufacturer or distributor, who then looks for when the laptop signs onto a network. The agency sends a signal to the computer to shut it down and perhaps try to locate it. I don't remember all of the fine details of how it works and I'm not sure how much I should say in a public forum in case it is still in development. But, yeah, how exactly does it work? I guess we have to wait to see.

I used to feel a lack of sympathy for people who live near places like airports or rail lines and complained about the noise. Now, I understand better how circumstances can change, traffic can increase, and people don't always have the option to move. When I was considering purchasing property near a commuter rail line, I was smart enough to visit during peak commuter hours so I would know how loud the trains are.The amount of this fellow's complaints seem to have harmed his goal. It changed the airport staff's perception of him from someone with legitimate concerns to someone who's a bit obsessive and whom they don't take as seriously anymore.

When I read research results like this study, I often wonder how the researchers account for people's habits and how much the media distorts the actual research. Some of the news outlets, like what I just saw on the evening news, spin the story in a way that implies eating breakfast is a magic solution to some problems, like weight gain. Is it breakfast alone that is the difference or is it that teenagers who eat breakfast are more likely to engage in a lifestyle healthier than their peers who skip the meal?
